Data Architecture

Part of AI for Decision Makers, a workshop for managers at LAM Research.

Most of the work that matters still runs through spreadsheets. This module is about knowing where that breaks, what the pipeline underneath actually looks like, and how to build a small one yourself so you can tell the difference between a request your data team will welcome and one they will quietly resent.

We use the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company dataset throughout: sales, customers, HR, and a paper mill, with all the disagreements you would expect from a company that keeps its numbers in three places at once.

By the end of the module you will be able to:

  1. Effectively communicate about modern data pipeline components, connectivity, and feasibility with technical database administrators or IT teams.
  2. Demonstrate the use of existing tooling to build and automate small data pipelines to facilitate day-to-day operations and analysis.
